The nation's loud and proud psychedelic rock and jam band, Goose, just announced its 2024 Summer Tour. Turning the heat up this June, the band is taking its newest drummer Cotter Ellis on his first run of shows. You're definitely in for a rockin' time to show the drummer how the Goose crowd rocks it all out. Dropping a new album "Ted Tapes 2024" featuring sessions of Ellis' audition tapes. Indie jam is definitely still alive and kickin', and Goose is at the center of it all. Playing since 2014, their jam-packed and sold-out shows surely speak for themselves.

First, how did Cotter Ellis make it into the band? As Ben Atkind parted ways with Goose in late 2023, the boys were in search of a worthy drummer in the family. "I first saw Cotter play with his band Swimmer at Nectar’s some years ago," Rick Mitarotonda shared via Live For Live Music.

"I was sitting solo at one of the bar tables right in front of the stage with the PA ripping. The set was awesome, they’re all fantastic players and I was taken with the buoyant energy and how much fun they were having. Something had me glued to the drums though. His pocket and feel were gripping. He really told a story with his playing that night. It was an experience that always stuck with me," he further explained.

He's definitely got astounding talent! Surely you've already tuned into Ted Tapes 2024... You'll know what the man has been raving about Ellis' capability as a drummer. "Each of the nine tracks on Ted Tapes 2024 are different improvisational moments from early sessions with Cotter," the band explained in an official statement. "They were recorded solely for the purpose of reference, not intended for any kind of release. The instruments and microphones were rigged up quickly, and the playing was raw and free from any expectations,"

With a new drummer in the family, the band immediately found a sense of connection. As ideas flowed and effortless collaboration filled the air in their early sessions, they knew they found the right guy. "We experienced a patience that allowed all our personalities to come out and energy to well up in new ways," he added.

In 2023, Goose shared a surprise EP "Autumn Crossing". The project featured three tracks - studio versions of fan favorites from their live shows. "Travelers I" and "Travelers II" were ultimate favorites from their setlist since 2020. Its final track "Elmeg the Wise" dates back to 2016 and found its way back to their 2023 "Live at Radio Music City Hall" album.

In a statement about the new EP, Mitarotonda explained that these tracks date back to a time before Goose was formally launched. "It’s among a collection of material I wrote in the years prior to Goose forming," he said, recalling how meaningful each track is. "This band is interesting to me in that way, it draws from many different times and places, and there’s a particular freedom to that. This one was a special time and place for me personally."

Highly acclaimed as "America's Next Great Jam Band", all eyes are set on Goose. With a couple of surprise releases over the previous years, fans have been itching for new music. Their last LP was 2022's "Dripfield", in which Pitchfork's Brandy Gerber claims that "Goose have a distinct ability to put listeners in a trance, even stopping time for a little bit. It’s one of the defining powers of jam bands, and Dripfield has enough humble peaks and valleys to bring us into their world."

As the band heads back to the stage, big surprises are rushing in. Don't miss out on Goose's 2024 Summer Tour by booking your tickets now!
